Muse grew up in his hometown, and after high school matriculation, he enrolled at the Louisiana Tech University, taking a music scholarship, however, he transferred to Berea College, Kentucky, where he studied acting. While at college, Muse became quite focused on polishing his acting talents, and as a result, he featured in numerous outdoor dramas, dinner theaters, and small repertory groups.

In order to support himself during college years, Muse worked as a driver, and rented equipment to film productions, continuing with the work after college, while at the same time appearing for his first auditions. In 1994 he was encouraged by Marion Dougherty – V-P of Casting for Warner Brothers at the time – to move to Hollywood in order to extend his chances of finding new roles. He soon found an agent, and Muse was ready to step-up.

Before his move to Hollywood, Muse had already made his screen debut, but those were only minor roles in B-production films. All changed with the role of Hank Corrigan in the romantic drama “Something to Talk About” in 1995, starring Julia Roberts, Dennis Quaid and Robert Duvall. Thanks to the success of the film and Muse’s overall good performance, his name was heard all around Hollywood, and just two years later he was cast in the horror “I Know What You Did Last Summer”, with Jennifer Love Hewitt, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Anne Heche. Right then Muse showed his broad acting skills, moving from good guy Hank Corrigan to serial killer Benjamin Willis. He repeated the role in the sequel “I Still Know What You Did Last Summer”, released in 1998 – although cast as the lead, he still had to prove himself a bit more before moving to A-level films, and as a result, he had the lead roles in such indy films as “Season of the Hunted” in 2003, among others.

In 2005 he was selected for the role of Charles Westmoreland in the TV crime drama series “Prison Break” (2005-2008), starring Dominic Purcell, Wentworth Miller and Amaury Nolasco. Next year, he was chosen for the role of agent Mike Franks in the TV drama crime series “NCIS”, and until 2016 appeared in 18 episodes of the show as a recurring character. His next notable role was as D. Ray White in the drama “White Lightnin’” in 2009, while in 2010 he played Sam in the film “A Christmas Snow”, for which he received a Best Actor in a Feature Film award at the Trail Dance Film Festival.

In recent years, he has returned to darker roles, and in 2014 portrayed Gary Wolffsen in the horror film “Compound Fracture”, while in 2016 he was Professor Walter Jackson in the sci-fi thriller “Dark Resonance”. Most recently, he will appear in films “Valley of Bones”, and “Christian Movie”, both scheduled for release in late 2017. Furthermore, he is Detective Frank McGraw in the new TV crime drama series “Mindhunter”, which is currently in post-production, and will also show in late 2017.

To prove his devotion to theater and love for acting on the whole, Muse started the East Tennessee Conservatory for the Arts.

Regarding his personal life, Muse has been married to Nancy Ann Naumer since 1997; the couple has one child together.

He is also a philanthropist; he works with Stars for Autism, serving as their honorary chairman. Also, he has taken a step further, educating people about autism, speaking at numerous conferences and seminars about this disorder.
